Australian Labradoodle

The Australian Labradoodle was actually created by the search for an allergy-friendly dog that would also be suitable as a guide dog.

​

In the late 1980s, a breeding program was developed in which a Labrador was crossed with a standard Poodle. The Labrador was used for its "will-to-please" and the Poodle for its intelligence and easy-care coat. Later, several more varieties were crossed.

​

The Australian Labradoodle has another big advantage: it has a non-shedding coat and is 98% allergy free.

Breed description

The Australian Labradoodle is a cheerful, social and energetic dog. He has an athletic, graceful and compact appearance.

​

The height x length ratio should be 10 to 12, he has angular shoulders and strong elbows. The hindquarters are moderately angulated with a short and strong hock. A strong extended movement at the trot which gives the appearance. When relaxed or during play they will hop and touch the ground only gently. The backline should remain horizontal with strong loin and hindquarters. They are galloping dogs and therefore the flanks should be well on the chest. The tail should be low-set and saber-like, but a high-set gay tail is also permitted.

Coat

The coat of an Australian Labradoodle should not shed, does not emit a typical dog odor and should not cause allergic reactions. The coat is wavy or curly.​

Colour

The Australian Labradoodle comes in many different colors. The most common colors are:​

  • Chalk

  • Cream 

  • Cafe

  • Apricot

  • Red

  • Silver

  • Gold

  • Chocolate

  • Black

 The different patterns are:

  • solid

  • white marks

  • parti

  • phantom

  • sable 

  • brindle

​Parti:

  • At least 50% white with spots of another color

Phantom has a solid base color with a second color:

  • Above each eye

  • On the sides of the snout

  • On the throat / forechest

  • On all four legs and feet

  • Under the tail

Mini

35 to 42 cm.

Weight 7 to 13 kilos.

Medium

43 to 52 cm.

Weight 13 to 23 kilos.

Standard

53 to 63 cm.

Weight 23 to 30 kilos.
